There is no Unity in Ubuntu 20.04 the default is Gnome. That post is really old and related to 14.04.

I don't think this is true.
I recently upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 (using commands) and I (unhappily) wound up with Unity (which I can only tell because someone pointed out the style differences.) I say Unhappily because Unity seems to have hidden all my applications. and I cannot figure out how to see, access and use them

on another system I recently upgraded to 20.04 from a USB stick and that upgrade gave me Gnome.

Canonical abandoned Unity in 2017.
But it was then revived by some 10 year old kid in India.
The first Unity release - Ubuntu Unity 20.04 LTS - was in May 2020. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Unity.

Unfortunately I don't use Ubuntu.

Are there differences in the repos present in /etc/apt/sources.list between your two Ubuntu systems?
